Child injured after hitting parked vehicle near Red Deer school
Red Deer RCMP are investigating a collision between a vehicle and a child near Mattie McCullough Elementary School Thursday morning.
Mounties confirm the incident happened around 8:10 a.m. across from the school when a male youth struck a stationary vehicle.
Police say the youth received minor scrapes and injuries and was assessed at the scene before being taken to hospital as a precautionary measure.
“There are supports in place at the school for students, staff and parents who witnessed the accident,” says school principal Kim Kirkwood, in a letter to parents Thursday morning. “These can be difficult situations for all involved. We want to take this opportunity to remind our students and parents about the importance of pedestrian safety.”
