City councillor wants Lacombe to explore allowing VLTs
A city councilor in Lacombe is hoping to gauge the community’s interest in exploring the potential return of video lottery terminals (VLTs) as an additional revenue stream for local restaurants.
Reuben Konnik brought forward a Notice of Motion this week, “That council include a ballot for a vote on a question at the next municipal election, asking citizens if they would like to see Video Lottery Terminals return within our city boundaries or that council rescind Bylaw 244.”
Konnik says a few restaurants in town have expressed an interest in having VLT’s in their establishments.
“The restaurant industry, as you know, has been hard hit by the pandemic,” he explains. “We have done a lot as a council to support the restaurant industry during this time such as expanding on outdoor patios and so forth. This, I felt, would be another way for those restaurants that are interested in having VLT’s, recover from the debilitating effects of the pandemic.”
