Red Deer down to 409 active COVID cases

Red Deer’s active COVID-19 case count dipped by another 89 on Tuesday and now sits at 409.

Recoveries are up 81 to 5,060 as the total number of COVID-19 cases attributed to Red Deer rose by just 10 to 5,508.

Red Deer’s death toll stemming from COVID-19 remains 39.

More than 50,000 Red Deerians (50,904) have received at least one dose of COVID vaccine, including 8,442 who are fully vaccinated with two doses.

The Central Zone as a whole has 1,289 active cases as of Tuesday, down 200, and 53 hospitalizations, up one, including 13 receiving intensive care at Red Deer Regional Hospital. The Central Zone has had 154 deaths linked to COVID-19, including one reported in the past 24 hours – a man in his 60s who passed away May 23.

Across the province, Alberta reported 387 new cases on Tuesday out of 3,998 test results for a positivity rate of 9.9 per cent.

Active cases across the province are down to 12,078, a one-day decrease of 1,530.

There are 565 Albertans hospitalized due to the virus, down four, including 158 intensive care, down three.

There were 141 new variant cases of concern identified over the past 24 hours. Variants now make up 30.5 per cent (3,694) of Alberta’s active case count.

A total of nine new deaths linked to COVID-19 were reported in the past day to bring the province’s total to 2,192.

Alberta has now delivered 2,552,317 vaccine doses, including over 20,000 doses on Monday, with 49.2 percent of eligible Albertans having received at least one dose and 7.9 per cent fully vaccinated with two doses.

A media release from the provincial government Tuesday afternoon says officials will announce on Wednesday Alberta’s strategy for safely easing COVID-19 restrictions.
