Fire ban downgraded to fire restriction in County of Stettler

May 21, 2021 | 2:43 PM

Officials with the County of Stettler say that a previously issued Fire Ban in the county has now been downgraded to a Fire Restriction.

However, Regional Fire Chief Mark Dennis says fire hazard remains high in eastern portions of the County of Stettler.

This means new fire permits will not be issued for large open fires such as burning brush, burning pits or major burns such as old buildings, until further notice.

This Fire Restriction:

1. PROHIBITS the issuance of fire permits and the discharge of all fireworks;

2. ALLOWS safe fires in burning barrels/incinerators provided they are equipped with metal mesh screens, located on non-combustible surface a minimum of 3 metres from any combustible material including buildings;

3. ALLOWS recreational campfires contained by non-combustible material with a metal mesh screen, as well as charcoal briquette barbecues, propane/gas barbecue, and propane/gas fire pits. All types must be supervised and extinguished before leaving unattended;

4. ALLOWS Fire Department authorized burning at waste transfer sites with extreme caution.

This FIRE RESTRICTION will continue until further notice.
