Public Hearing for interim shelter site on May 25
Red Deer city council is seeking public feedback on a Land Use Bylaw amendment that would allow the city’s interim homeless shelter to continue operating at its current location until May 31, 2022.
The shelter operated by Safe Harbour Society is located inside the former Cannery Row building at 5239 53 Avenue.
Council passed first reading on the Land Use Bylaw amendment on Apr. 29, before it considers second and third hearing on May 25, when the Public Hearing process takes place.
City officials note that Public Hearings are council’s opportunity to obtain feedback from citizens impacted by the potential zoning change. Citizens who would like to have their feedback included in the council agenda must submit it by May 21. Other feedback received in advance but after that date will be provided to council.
