Red Deer down to 848 active COVID cases

Red Deer’s active COVID-19 case count is down for a second day in a row.

Monday’s numbers from the province show the city with 848 active cases (797 per 100,000), down from 874 on Sunday and Saturday’s record of 911.

Recoveries are up 42 to 4,107 as the total number of COVID-19 cases in Red Deer during pandemic rose 39 over the past 24 hours to 4,993.

Red Deer’s death toll stemming from COVID-19 remains unchanged at 38.

Across the province, there are 25,438 active cases, up 241 from Sunday, and 182,832 recovered cases, up 1,349.

Alberta’s total number of COVID-19 cases from the start of the pandemic is 210,387.

There are 1,597 new cases in the province today out of 15,509 tests in the past 24 hours for a positivity rate of 10.5 per cent.

There are now 690 Albertans in hospital with COVID-19, an increase of 22 from Sunday. 158 are in the ICU and there have been seven more deaths linked to the virus bringing the province’s total to 2,117.

There were 406 new variant cases of concern identified in Alberta over the past day. Variants now make up 42 per cent (10,673) of Alberta’s active case count.

Over 1.9 million doses of the vaccine have been administered to date and seven per cent of Alberta’s population is now fully vaccinated with two doses.

The Central Zone has 2,807 active cases as of Monday, a decrease of 37. There are 71 hospitalizations, up five, and nine people are now receiving intensive care for COVID-19 at Red Deer Regional Hospital, an increase of two. The zone has had 142 deaths linked to the virus, including two reported in the past day – a man in his 80s on May and woman in her 70s on May 9.
