New interactive app for Rocky and area promoting local

May 7, 2021 | 12:22 PM

The Rocky & District Chamber of Commerce has announced the new Discover David Thompson Trails (DDTT) interactive app to assist locals and tourists alike in finding businesses, attractions and community information.

The eat/shop/play app points users towards what they might be looking for. Selecting ‘eat’ will give a breakdown of options such as family dining, pizza, catering, etc. ‘Shop’ and ‘play’ will also have similar listings of options under those categories.

The final option is ‘Live/Work/Stay’ that essentially puts together all the options someone would want to know if planning to live in the community by listing things like realtors, schooling, and religious organizations.

Administrative Executive and Community Liaison for the Rocky Chamber Michelle Meatheringham noted the app will have a variety of capabilities beyond listing businesses. She says it will have the opportunity to transition the directory to a digital publication in the future.

“There is the potential to add a digital option for participating in Passport to Christmas, engaging more businesses and shoppers.”

Passport to Christmas was created in 2019 as an endeavor promote shopping local. If individuals shopped at participating local business they could collect stamps in an effort to fill their “Passport”. Once filled, a Passport would be drawn and the winner would collect Rocky Chamber Bucks, which could then be spent locally at participating stores. The promotion went so well it was brought back outside of the Christmas season.

The idea for the app was brought forward by the Clearwater Creative Connections group made up of community member and business owners in an effort to encourage growth in the area.

The new Discover David Thompson Trails app is scheduled to be available users by May 20.
