Red Deer up two to 883 active COVID-19 cases

Red Deer’s active COVID-19 case rate held steady on Wednesday.

The latest numbers from the province show the city with 883 active cases, up two from Tuesday, representing an active case rate of 829.9 cases per 100k.

Recoveries sit at 3,804, an increase of 53 as the total number of COVID-19 cases attributed to Red Deer rose 55 to 4,723.

Red Deer’s death toll stemming from COVID-19 remains 36.

Province-wide, Alberta announced 2,271 new cases on Wednesday. That’s out of 20,494 tests for a positivity rate of 11 per cent.

The province’s active case count sits at a record 24,156, up 533 over the past 24 hours, which includes 14,358 active variant cases (59.4%).

There are 666 hospitalizations because of COVID-19, a decrease of five, including 146 in ICU, down four.

Recoveries sit at 174,666, an increase of 1,235.

Three more deaths were reported in the past 24 hours to bring Alberta’s total linked to COVID-19 to 2,102. The latest deaths were all in the province’s North Zone and include a man in his 20s, man in his 40s and woman in her 30s.

The province has administered 1,694,675 vaccine doses as of May 4.

The Central Zone has a total of 2,888 active cases as of Wednesday and 63 hospitalizations, including nine in the ICU at Red Deer Regional Hospital. The zone has had 137 deaths linked to COVID-19, including a man in his 60s on April 30.
