Spring Melt Safety

City urges caution around local bodies of water

Mar 25, 2021 | 3:28 PM

Warming temperatures and the official arrival of spring has the City of Red Deer reminding residents to be cautious around bodies of water.

Red Deerians are reminded that ice and water conditions on community ponds, creeks and the river can be very hazardous and citizens should take extreme caution when using these spaces and nearby trails.

Officials note, that as spring time melt increases upstream, water levels can fluctuate rapidly, and sections of waterways can be at risk of localized flooding. As such, any body of water can pose a serious risk to people and pets.

Residents are asked to please obey signs and barricades which have been placed in unsafe areas. It is also recommended to keep pets close to ensure their safety.
