Red Deer down to 124 active cases of COVID-19

Alberta added 425 new cases of COVID-19 on Friday, bringing the to-date total to 137,562.

The one-day total is out of 9,913 test results for a positivity rate of ~4.3 per cent.

The number of active cases in the province is 4,546, an increase of 58. Recoveries are up to 131,081.

There are now 257 Albertans in hospital due to COVID-19, down two, including 38 in intensive care, the same as yesterday.

Two additional COVID-19 deaths were also reported to Alberta Health in the last 24 hours to bring the province’s total to 1,935.

As of Friday, there have been 784 total variant cases of COVID-19 in the province, an increase of nine over the past day, including 769 cases of the UK variant. There have been 146 variant cases in Central Zone, all of the UK version.

Alberta has administered 333,379 of COVID-19 vaccine as of March 11. A total of 91,470 people have received two doses.

Locally, the number of active cases in Red Deer continues trending downward and now sits at 124 as of Friday, a decrease of 11 over the past 24 hours. Since Red Deer hit a new peak of 574 active cases on Feb. 24, that number has gone down each day.

The current active caseload is the lowest in Red Deer since there were 126 on Nov. 22.

There have now been 2,725 recoveries, an increase of 17 as the total number of cases attributed to Red Deer rose by just six to 2,880.

The Central Zone has 433 active cases, up two from Thursday, and 27 hospitalizations, the same as yesterday. Six people are receiving intensive care for COVID-19 at Red Deer Regional Hospital, up two. The zone has now had 117 COVID-related deaths, none of which were reported today.
