Man who pleaded guilty in Ponoka man’s shooting death still considering options
Court proceedings have been put over two more weeks as a local man who pleaded guilty to manslaughter in the shooting death of a young Ponoka man considers his options.
Tyler John Campbell, 28, was back in Red Deer provincial court Thursday morning to speak to sentencing in the Dec. 2019 shooting death of Jeffery Kraft near Lacombe.
Crown prosecutor Ed Ring and defence lawyer Michael Scrase have twice submitted a joint submission for a seven-year prison sentence for Campbell. Both times, however, Judge Jim Hunter refused the submission, going as far as to call it “simply inappropriate.”
Scrase said last week (March 4) that Campbell would be taking time to consider whether to vacate his plea and take the case to trial.
