Innisfail residents can apply for new Fee Assistance Program
In January of this year, the Town of Innisfail launched the new Fee Assistance Program providing up to $200 for each eligible resident to be used towards activity fees or membership costs.
Town officials say the program, made possible by the generous contribution of the Innisfail Solar Corporation/Elemental Energy, is intended to help Innisfail residents experiencing financial hardship gain access to arts, culture, wellness and recreation activities. This assistance can also be used towards items that provide greater access to the community, such as bus passes.
Innisfail Solar, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Elemental Energy Inc., began operations of the Innisfail Solar Farm last July 2020. Through an agreement with the Town of Innisfail, Innisfail Solar will contribute $20,000 annually to a community development fund, a portion of which provides the funding for the Fee Assistance Program.
Eligible applicants or households include those receiving unemployment benefits, Assured Income for the Severely Handicapped (AISH) or those falling below the federal government’s low income cut-offs (LICOs). Applications can be made at any time and will be reviewed by the Town’s Community Services Department.
