Mounties investigating fatal crash on QEII near Morningside

AIcy highway conditions are believed to have been a factor in a fatal crash on the QEII near Morningside in central Alberta on Wednesday.

On Jan. 27 at 3:33 p.m., Ponoka Integrated Traffic Unit, with Ponoka RCMP, responded to a 911 call of a single vehicle collision on the QEII, southbound at the Highway 2A access overpass.

Emergency crews responded, but Mounties say the collision resulted in the death of an adult female who was the sole occupant of the vehicle.

Investigation indicates that an SUV was travelling southbound and the driver lost control, entering the ditch. The vehicle rolled in the west ditch, where it came to rest.

Although southbound traffic was slowed, police say it was not diverted while the scene was investigated. RCMP cleared the scene shortly after 5:30 p.m.
