Red Deer rental rates edge lower in December

Modest rental rate decreases in the city of Red Deer are continuing to keep the community among the most affordable in Canada.

According to the most recent National Rent Report by Rentals.ca, Red Deer ranked 30th out of 35 cities evaluated.

The average monthly rent for a one-bedroom unit in Red Deer last month was $930 – down 2.4 per cent from November and 3.8 per cent when compared to December, 2019.

Two bedroom units in the city rented for an average of $1,000 per month – down 1.8 per cent from November and 2.7 per cent from December, 2019.

Elsewhere in Alberta, Calgary placed 23rd on the list of Canadian cities highlighted in the national rental rankings.

The average rent for a one-bedroom unit in Calgary came in at $1,178 in December, while a two-bedroom checked in for an average of $1,470 per month.

Edmonton placed 27th on the list with an average monthly rent of $1,027 for a one-bedroom unit in December, while a two-bedroom was $1,262 per month.

Grande Prairie placed 28th on the list with an average one-bedroom rent of $985 per month in December, while a two-bedroom was $1,154.

Lethbridge placed 29th on the list with an average monthly December rent of $950 for a one-bedroom unit, while a two-bedroom averaged $1,106 per month.

Lloydminster, AB, placed 35th on the list with an average monthly rent of $742 for a one-bedroom unit in December, while a two-bedroom averaged $896 per month.

The most expensive rental rates in Canada last month belonged to Vancouver, where a one-bedroom unit averaged $1,855 per month, while a two-bedroom averaged $2,635.
