Rocky residents turn out in droves to support local movie theatre

Due to the current health crises many businesses in the province have been forced to close their doors or find ways to adapt, and Rocky Cinemas may have done just that.

On December 19, they held their first Christmas Drive-Thru Snack Fundraiser giving residents the chance to grab some movie snacks for at home.

They offered three different snack packages that offered various popcorn and pop sizes and some added candies.

The entire thing was through curb-side pickup, with separate pay and pick booths, and only accepting cash to keep the line moving.

All three packages were simple pricing of $20, $30, and $40 dollars and would not be giving change of any kind, as they were keeping the money handling to a bare minimum.

In an overwhelming amount of community support 218 vehicles were served with a minimum of two bags of popcorn per vehicle. That’s over 436 bags of popcorn that went out in a matter of hours.

Not to mention WOLF Transport made a purchase of $500 worth of movie passes and McCaw’s Drilling & Blasting donated $1500.

Line-ups of vehicles stretched for blocks in multiple directions of supporters and some people reported a wait of over two hours and the general response, was very positive.

Laurie Bowers on social media said, “We waited joyfully for our popcorn and watched in awe as the lines grew.”

Carter Martindale on Facebook commented, “Was well worth the wait! Will definitely be back for more soon!”

If you missed getting your movie snacks on Saturday, Rocky Cinemas intends to continue offering the curb-side pickup every night from 5:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and they promise this time “you will not have to wait for the best popcorn in town.”
