13 Olymel employees in Red Deer currently with COVID-19

Olymel’s pork processing facility in Red Deer currently has 13 employees with active cases of COVID-19, company officials confirmed on Wednesday.

Another 20 employees identified as close contacts of the confirmed cases are also isolating.

Corporate spokesperson Richard Vigneault said 26 other employees have returned to work after recovering from COVID-19.

The total number of positive cases at the facility since the start of the pandemic stands at 39.

A COVID-19 outbreak was declared at the Red Deer Olymel plant on Nov. 17 and remains in effect.
