An arson investigation is underway after two homes at the Montana First Nation were destroyed by fire last week.

Maskwacis RCMP says it was at about 3 a.m. on Dec. 3 when they were called to investigate two residential structure fires on the Montana First Nation.

Police say the fire department was able to extinguish the fires, but damage was extensive to the point where the homes couldn’t be saved. The residences were empty at the time of the blaze and no one was hurt.

Police began investigating and it was determined that the fires were suspicious.

Maskwacis RCMP says they learned of a video that may have been posted on the social media app SnapChat, but was quickly deleted. Police believe there is a large group of people who have seen the video and are requesting anyone who has seen it to contact Maskwacis RCMP.

It’s believed the video was posted on Dec. 2 between the hours of 1:30 a.m. and 3:30 a.m.

Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact Maskwacis RCMP at 780-585-4600 or your local police. If you wish to remain anonymous, you can contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS), visit P3Tips.com or use the “P3 Tips” mobile app.
