Rotary Children’s Library closing its doors

The Rotary Children’s Library in Drayton Valley will be closing at the end of the month.

In a news release, the Town of Drayton Valley Library Board says they have heard urgent appeals from Drayton Valley and Brazeau County Councils to significantly reduce library operating costs.

The Board says it recognizes the economic challenges faced by local and provincial governments and it “acknowledges the impracticality of supporting two public libraries in our service area.”

The Board added they are committed to working with municipal councils and community partners to maximize efficiencies and operations while providing quality service.

As such, the Library Board has decided to permanently close the Rotary Children’s Library branch effective December 31, 2020.

The Board says the Rotary Library will be integrated into the Main Branch library collection until a long-range facility plan is resolved. The Board is also committed to retaining the name “Rotary Children’s Collection” for any future public library facility arrangement.
