Red Deer Games Foundation Awards

Elite athletes can apply for help with COVID-related expenses

Nov 25, 2020 | 11:17 AM

The Red Deer Games Foundation normally provides athlete development grants during two granting periods per year. Unfortunately, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, their spring 2020 grant program was postponed.

While elite athletic activity has been extremely limited during this past year, the foundation says elite athletes who have incurred actual expenses for training and competition during 2020 are welcome to apply for athlete development grants.

The deadline for application is Dec. 11.

The foundation says that depending on the number of applications received, review of the applicant’s requests may be deferred to 2021.

Since forming in 1975, the foundation through its grant program has contributed over $185,000 to deserving athletes to help offset the costs of training and equipment as they continue to pursue their training and competition programs.

The grants are awarded to individuals living in Red Deer and area who have demonstrated a high level of ability and a strong commitment to their sport. These athletes have achieved competence at the international, national, provincial or regional level.
