Town of Ponoka seeks input on proposed Land Use Bylaw changes

Oct 28, 2020 | 4:03 PM

Citizens are invited to give their input on proposed changes to the Town’s Land Use Bylaw. Due to COVID-19, the Town is hosting a virtual Public Open House on the Town website at www.ponoka.ca rather than holding an in-person event.

Land Use Bylaw Review

The proposed Bylaw changes are part of a Land Use Bylaw review that the Town is currently undertaking. The purpose of the review is to evaluate the current Land Use Bylaw regulations and determine what is working as intended, and what areas of the Bylaw need to be adjusted and updated to reflect current development trends.

The Town’s current Land Use Bylaw was created in 1997. Although some changes have been made to the Bylaw over the years, much has changed in the community during the past 23 years, which is why the Bylaw needs to be reviewed and updated.

Land Use Bylaw – What is it?

The Land Use Bylaw regulates and controls the use and development of land and buildings in the Town of Ponoka. It establishes Land Use Districts across the Town, and identifies the allowable uses for the lands and their development standards. The Land Use Bylaw gives landowners a level of certainty regarding their rights to develop their lands. It also ensures adjacent landowners can know what could be developed on neighbouring lands located next to their properties.

You can find the following information on the virtual Open House at www.ponoka.ca:

– Summaries of the proposed Land Use Bylaw changes. The proposed changes are presented for each section of the Bylaw (Administration Sections, General Regulations and Land Use Districts);

– Comparison documents that show the current Land Use Bylaw regulations side-by-side with the proposed text changes; and

– Opportunities to submit your comments on the proposed changes.

There are several ways that you can participate in the review of the Land Use Bylaw and share your thoughts. You can submit comments using the survey forms on the Open House webpage, or you can send your comments directly to the Parkland Community Planning Services Planner using the contact information in the next paragraph.
