Olds native Ronan Seeley was selected by the Carolina Hurricanes at the 2020 NHL Draft on Wednesday.

Carolina snapped up the left-shooting defenceman in round seven, 208th overall. He went into the draft ranked 75th among North American Skaters by NHL Central Scouting.

Hurricanes Director of Player Personnel Darren Yorke offered up the following description of Seely: “Extremely fast skater. Holds tight gaps and is able to jump up into the play. He’s able to play the style we love here in Carolina.”

Seeley, who was born in Yellowknife, collected 32 points (3 goals, 29 assists) with the WHL’s Everett Silvertips in 2019-20.

He played two seasons for the Red Deer U15AAA Rebels from 2015-17. In his second season he compiled 38 points (8 goals, 30 assists) in 35 regular season games and six points in five playoff games.

Seeley played U18 AAA in Lethbridge in 2017-18 before moving on to Everett starting in 2018-19. He also played at the World U17 Hockey Challenge in 2018.
