Alberta updates COVID-19 numbers for Aug. 17

Alberta is reporting 359 new cases of COVID-19 over the past 72 hours, bringing the province’s total to 12,412.

There were 177 reported cases on Friday (Aug. 14), 86 on Saturday and another 96 on Sunday.

The number of active cases in the province is up by 96 to 1,132. Recoveries increased by 260 over the same period to a total of 11,056.

The province completed 10,866 COVID-19 tests on Friday, followed by 8,663 Saturday and 8,691 on Sunday (28,220 over three days).

There are currently 45 Albertans in hospital for the virus, including 10 in intensive case.

Three more deaths are reported, bringing Alberta’s fatality count from the virus to 224. The latest deaths were all men, two of them in their 60s and one in his 80s, in the north, south and Calgary zones.

The central zone now has 85 active cases and 470 recoveries reported, up from 81 and 459 on Friday.

In Red Deer there are now 14 active cases of COVID-19, an increase of four from Friday’s report. The number of recoveries in the city is now listed at 60.

Elsewhere, Red Deer County has one active case as does the city of Lacombe, Lacombe County has three, Mountain View County has one, Kneehill County has two and the County of Stettler has six.
