Two people have been arrested and now face drug-related charges following a multi-week investigation by RCMP.

On July 15, members of the RCMP’s General Investigation Unit arrested a 34-year-old woman in Sylvan Lake following an alleged drug deal.

Mounties say the suspect was found to be in possession of one ounce of cocaine for the purposes of trafficking, along with a prohibited weapon.

Samantha Lewis is charged with possession for the purposes of trafficking, and possession of a prohibited weapon.

Police say another individual was also arrested and found to be in possession of one and half ounces of cocaine for the purposes of trafficking and $11,100 in cash, believed to be the proceeds of crime.

RCMP note charges against this individual are pending and the suspect cannot be named at this time.

“A seizure of this magnitude equates to approximately 100 doses of cocaine,” said Sgt. Paul Glanville, in a release. “This not only causes harm on an individual user level, but on a community level, has trickle down crime impacts stemming from impairment and drug dealing.” added Glanville.
