Dr. Hinshaw outlines DOs and DON’Ts for wearing a mask with active cases down to 801

May 24, 2020 | 4:02 PM

Dr. Deena Hinshaw wasn’t in front of the cameras on Sunday, but did share a number of vital tips about what to know with respect to wearing a mask.

The chief medical officer of health for Alberta tweeted, “Wearing a non-medical face mask does not replace physical distancing & self-isolation. It has not been proven to protect the person wearing it but it can help prevent spreading the virus to other people. Visit alberta.ca/masks for more information.”

Face mask DOs, she noted, include:

-Make sure it fits well & doesn’t gape at the sides

-Wash your hands before putting it on & after taking it off

-Wear masks for a short time

-Carry a bag with clean masks & a plastic bag that can be used store used masks until they can be washed at home

Face mask DON’Ts include:

-Don’t share masks with others

-Don’t wear a mask that is damp or soiled

-Don’t touch your face while wearing the mask

-Don’t move or adjust the mask while it is on your face
