Aspire Special Needs Resource Centre to launch online auction fundraiser

Central Albertans have all been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic and Aspire Special Needs Resource Centre is not immune.

Like many others, we have been forced to cancel major fund-raising efforts, including Evening of Decadent Dessert held each May.

The loss of springtime fundraising events and activities will affect Aspire’s ability to support children with special needs in central Alberta. Aspire was motivated to develop new and creative fundraising opportunities which would be safe for supporters.

As a result, the Aspire team is launching an exciting new event, an online auction called A Journey of Hope starting on May 15 and continuing until May 31, 2020.

Seeing the potential, Aspire’s generous sponsors not only fully understood, but committed, their continued support.

“It was heartbreaking, we had to make that decision at the moment, but the answer from our supporters was so encouraging,” JoAnne Hayden, Executive Director of Aspire said. “We need to be prepared to adapt as the environment demands and opportunities allow. Our Board of Directors encouraged us to move to an online auction and we are thrilled that dedicated supporters and local businesses continue to support our local community during these challenging times.”

Attendees of Evening of Decadent Dessert are familiar with the selection of items usually found in the silent and live auction including trips, event tickets and shopping opportunities. Over the next couple weeks, Aspire will be building on the amazing selection up for bid.

“Our goal is to offer central Albertans an opportunity to support Aspire’s mission of serving children with special needs, from the safety of their homes,” said Angela Davis, Aspire’s Fund Development Coordinator.
