Central Alberta photographer offering Grad 2020 lawn signs

May 3, 2020 | 8:00 AM

A Red Deer photographer is trying to inject a little joy back into the lives of graduating students who were told recently they won’t get to go to prom because of COVID-19.

The project is called the Grad Yard Sign Campaign, and Jennifer Donnelly says she’s received orders from central Alberta to Edmonton and Calgary, and even out of province.

“I really wanted a way to help parents show how proud they are of their grad, as well as acknowledge all the hard work and accomplishments these grads have made in academics, sports, clubs and with friends,” says the owner of Donnelly Photography.

“So many have bought dresses, suits and were really looking forward to grad day. I know everyone is thinking about the grads and I wanted to do something that would lift them up during these times.”

The best part, as Donnelly notes, is that net proceeds from all purchases of the 16″ x 24″ signs will be donated to the Red Deer Food Bank.

“This is a community spirit project and I hope it can bring some smiles to faces,” she says. “Although we cannot be physically together to celebrate, as a community we are there to celebrate with our 2020 grads.”

Signs can be ordered here until the end of May.
