Burger of the Month raises almost $900 for Turning Point Women’s Program
Incredible. In a month where everyone’s worlds were flipped outside down, support for our beloved Burger of the Month Program was AMAZING, affirming we truly have the BEST guests, hands down!
Local guest chef Brenda Sargeant helped provide the creative juices for the “Date Night” burger, which included grilled chicken, date + apple Jam, melted brie, apple slices, cucumber slices, spinach and garlic parmesan aioli all on a brioche bun! $2 from every burger sold in March went directly to Brenda’s charity of choice the Women’s Program at Turning Point.
After having the opportunity to sit down with a woman who lives on the streets of Red Deer and hear first-hand how the Women’s Program at Turning Point saved her life, Brenda was compelled to learn more about the program and help in some capacity.
The program provides a community based, holistic approach to supporting women in Red Deer and area who are experiencing vulnerability due to place or circumstance. It uses a harm reduction approach which focuses on meeting women where they are at and reducing barriers to health and social services. Many of these women are experiencing social isolation, homelessness or are marginally housed. They may also be dealing with substance abuse, domestic violence, mental illness, working in the sex trade or involvement with Child and Family Services in their own childhood and/or with their own children.
