Easter Bunny hoppy to visit your house in support of local food banks

Apr 8, 2020 | 6:30 PM

Central Albertans can celebrate Easter in a unique way this weekend while also helping their local food bank.

Lacombe-based Copper Cloud Events is hosting “Easter Bunny House Visits – Food Bank Fundraiser” this Friday through Sunday (April 10-12).

By providing a small monetary donation (minimum $20.00), central Albertans can enjoy a visit from the Easter Bunny right to their front door. You can do so by visiting Eventbrite.

Organizer Larissa Podbielski tells Peter Michaels from 106.7 The Drive they’re just trying to spread some cheer and bring some light to a gloomy time during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“We’re really lucky the government said that the Easter Bunny is essential,” she exclaims. “So we got in touch with him and he said that he wanted to come out and visit the kids of central Alberta. So he’s going to go out all this weekend and wave to the kids from their house and of course with his special magic, he can’t have any kids touch him, but he can give lots of waves and dance and smile for the kids.”

Podbielski says a day is scheduled for each community they plan to visit.

“On Friday, we’re going to Sylvan Lake, Poplar Ridge, Bentley,” she explains. “Saturday, we’re going to Lacombe, Blackfalds, and Ponoka, and Sunday we’re going to Red Deer. They buy a ticket for that day and then we’ll come between 10:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. and we’ll call when we get to your house and then that way, you can take a peek out the window and see the Easter Bunny!”

If you don’t want a visit, but still want to help, donations are still greatly appreciated and welcome. Donations without an Easter Bunny Visit can also be made through Eventbrite or by etransfer to contact@coppercloud.ca.

No password is needed, but donors are asked to indicate which food bank they would like their donation to go to, and Copper Cloud Events will deliver it to the chosen food bank at the end of the fundraiser.

“We’re donating to Sylvan Lake Food Bank, Lacombe Food Bank, and Red Deer Food Bank, so the money stays in your community,” she exclaims. “We’re an event rental company, so all the weddings and things have kind of been postponed for the next few months, so we’ve got a little extra time on our hands!”

Podbielski says almost $700 in sales has already been raised.
