Alberta reports 25 new cases of COVID-19 on Tuesday

Alberta is reporting one of its lowest single-day increases in COVID-19 cases in some time.

As of Tuesday, April 7, a total of 1,373 Albertans have tested positive for the virus, according to Alberta Health, an increase of just 25 from Monday’s report.

Another two deaths were confirmed in the Calgary Health Zone, meaning 26 Albertans have now died as a result of COVID-19.

The number of cases reported in Central zone remains 66, same as was reported Monday.

The number of cases reported in Red Deer has risen by one to 26, including 12 active cases and 14 recovered. Red Deer County has now seen 12 cases (10 active, 2 recovered), Lacombe County four cases (1 active, 3 recovered), Lacombe two cases (both recovered), while Clearwater County and the County of Stettler each have one active case and Ponoka County has one recovered case.

The number of COVID-19 fatalities in Central zone remains at one.

Dr. Deena Hinshaw, Alberta’s chief medical officer, did not hold a daily briefing on Tuesday as the province chose to release the day’s updated totals online ahead of Premier Jason Kenney’s televised address scheduled for 6 p.m.

The breakdown of COVID-19 cases by provincial health zones is as follows:

  • Calgary zone – 835 cases (17 deaths, 2 new)
    • 26,847 tests
  • Edmonton zone – 358 cases (four deaths)
    • 22,288 tests
  • North zone – 90 cases (four deaths)
    • 5,507 tests
  • Central zone – 66 cases (one death)
    • 6,214 tests
  • South zone – 22 cases
    • 3,263 tests
  • Unknown – two cases
    • 1,146 tests

Other numbers:

  • Of the total cases, there are currently 42 people in hospital, 15 of whom have been admitted to intensive care units (ICU)
  • 199 are suspected of being community acquired
  • There are now a total of 447 confirmed recovered cases
  • There have been 65,265 people tested for COVID-19 and a total of 67,117 tests performed by the lab. There were 1,203 tests completed in the last 24 hours.
