The Olds Grizzlys have been eliminated from the AJHL playoffs after falling to the Drumheller Dragons in the opening round in five games.

The Grizzlys were able to steal game one of the series 4-1, before losing four straight.

In game two, the team was shut out 5-0 with Drumheller goalie Daniel Allin making 14 saves. Four of the Dragons’ five goals came on the powerplay as they went 4-for-7 on the night. Eric Martin led the way with two goals and two assists.

Game three was anybody’s for the taking, with the Grizzlys losing 4-3 in overtime. Derrick Budz scored the game winning goal with 1:29 left in the extra frame. The Dragons came back from being down 3-1 to take a 2-1 series lead.

Drumheller won game four 4-1 as the team peppered Olds goalie Ty Marcinowski with 44 shots. The Grizzlys scored first, but were unable to turn that into anything before allowing the next four.

In a do or die game five, the Grizzlys were blown out 8-1, only registering 18 shots on goal. Once again Olds stuck first, but Drumheller scored eight straight to cap off the game, and the series 4-1.

Drumheller moves on to play the Brooks Bandits in the second round starting Friday in Brooks.
