Central Alberta Freestyle Ski Club hosts meet at Canyon

Feb 26, 2020 | 3:35 PM

The Central Alberta Freestyle Ski Club hosted their club competition over the weekend, their first home meet in the last few years.

The club hosted it at Canyon Ski Resort and invited seven other clubs from across the province and British Columbia.

“On Saturday, we ran a single moguls course and on Sunday we ran a dual mogul course,” said Lyndsey Dussy, President of Central Alberta Freestyle Ski Club. “There have been club competitions in the previous years and then there have been some years that we don’t, but our current board hopes that hosting club competitions at Canyon can be an annual thing.”

The club played host to 49 athletes from the ages of six to 15. Each of them competed over the weekend for a chance to get on the podium.

Central Alberta Freestyle Ski Club had 15 athletes medal in their events.

“We’re all a very brand new board in the sense of hosting a competition, so we didn’t really know what to expect,” said Dussy. “49 athletes is a little bit lower than what we would have liked, but honestly because Central Alberta Freestyle hasn’t hosted a club competition for a year or two, we were quite happy with how many came. We anticipate in the years to come we will have more kids registered.”

The club plans to try their hand at hosting again next season with the same style of event.

Club members will go compete at an event at Sunshine Ski Resort this coming weekend.
