Arrest made in 2014 Edmonton murder case

MAPLE RIDGE B.C.- A suspect in the killing of a prominent member of Edmonton’s LGBTQ community nearly six years ago has been arrested in Maple Ridge.

The RCMP says Richard Lacarte was taken into custody last Thursday after they received a report of a man on a bridge throwing rocks at vehicles during rush hour.

He was arrested on a charge of mischief but it was later determined a Canada-wide warrant had been issued for him on a charge of second-degree murder in the death of 48-year-old Demetrios Karahalios in March 2014.

Lacarte is being transported back to Edmonton.
