A small contingent of supporters for the young man killed in a shooting in Lacombe last year turned out Friday morning as one of the suspects charged in the case appeared Friday morning in Red Deer provincial court.

The group appeared in support of Jeffery Kraft, a 20-year-old man from Ponoka who passed away from injuries sustained in a shooting during the early morning hours of Dec. 15, 2019.

That’s when Lacombe Police Service responded to the Lacombe Hospital where a male was admitted after suffering a gunshot wound.

Police say their investigation determined the victim had met with a female and male acquaintance earlier while driving in the area of northeast Lacombe, when a confrontation occurred. During the confrontation, a gun was fired, causing injuries to the victim.

Following the incident, the victim was driven to hospital, with the suspects then fleeing the scene. They were later arrested by Sylvan Lake RCMP.

Kraft’s supporters wore white t-shirts to court on Friday, with Jeffery’s picture on it and the words “Justice for Jeffery.”

Tyler John Campbell, 27, of Lacombe appeared briefly in court by CCTV from the Red Deer Remand Centre. He stands charged with several counts, including second-degree murder, conspire to commit murder, robbery with a firearm and breach of conditions.

Amie Joanne Rogers, 21, also of Lacombe, is charged with second-degree murder, conspire to commit murder, and robbery with a firearm.

Their case returns to court Feb. 28.
