Local soccer teams earn medals at Family Day Indoor Tournament

It was an impressive medal haul for a number of Red Deer soccer teams over the weekend during the 19th Annual Family Day Indoor Soccer Tournament.

Officials with Red Deer City Soccer Association (RDCSA) say roughly 900 players on 56 teams from across Alberta took part, with boarded games held at the Collicutt Centre, and non-boarded action taking place inside the Agricentre at Westerner Park, and for the first time ever, at the Dome Red Deer.

Medal winning teams from Red Deer included the Renegades U17 Boys, Renegades U15 Girls, and Renegades U11 Boys who won gold in the non-boarded tournament.

Meanwhile, both the Renegades U12 Boys and U12 Girls won bronze in the non-boarded tournament as well.

Elsewhere, the U10 Boys Jr. Renegades – team red won gold, while the U10 Girls Jr. Renegades won silver, and U15 Girls Tier 4 won bronze in the boarded tournament at the Collicutt.

RDCSA officials say Red Deer Soccer is also hosting U13 Boys and Girls Tier 1 boardless provincials Mar. 6-8.

It’s noted as only the second year that Alberta Soccer has hosted indoor boardless provincials.
