PACK THE POST UNTIL DEC. 19

St. John Ambulance Alberta Council taking non-perishable donations for food bank fundraiser

The St. John Ambulance Alberta Council is holding a Pack the Post fundraiser for the Red Deer Food Bank, and residents are invited to help them pack their mobile first aid vehicle full of non-perishables for the organization.

The First Aid Post vehicle will be located at the Council’s office at 6519 67 Street in Red Deer and is accepting donations until Dec. 19.

After the fundraising campaign, a therapy dog and the Council’s “Careful Curtis” mascot will join a team who will drive the vehicle to the food bank on Dec. 20 to be unloaded.

Kathleen Bailey, office administrator, said they’ve been collecting food bank donations from their students for three years.

“A couple months ago we decided, let’s go bigger and see if we can fill our First Aid Post with donations and drive it on down to the Food Bank,” she said.

For the last three years, students who finished a CPR or First Aid course, for example, could bring a donation item and get their paper certificate laminated by St. John Ambulance. Under this arrangement, the food bank was coming at least once a month to empty their donation cart at the office, Bailey said.
