ASIRT INVESTIGATION

Fatal crash involving off-duty Calgary police officer under investigation

Feb 11, 2020 | 7:35 AM

CALGARY- Alberta’s police watchdog says a fatal collision in Calgary that killed a man and seriously injured an off-duty police officer involved an SUV that had been reported stolen.

The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT) says police tried to stop the vehicle early Monday morning, but the driver took off.

A short time later, the SUV collided with a pickup truck driven by an off-duty police officer coming home from a night shift.

The agency says a 21-year-old man died at the scene and the officer was sent to hospital with serious injuries.
