EDMONTON- An Edmonton lawyer has pleaded guilty to manslaughter in the death of her boyfriend and has been sentenced to five years in prison.

Laurie Cunningham, who was 60 at the time, had been charged with second-degree murder after Mark Huemer was stabbed to death in his home in November 2017.

Cunningham told court she had been drinking when Huemer, 59, asked her to marry him.

She testified they were both “over the moon,” but then got into a physical fight when she didn’t want to have sex with him.
