UNEMPLOYMENT RATE TICKS UPWARD
Slight increase in Red Deer area December unemployment rate

RED DEER- Stats Canada’s December jobs report shows the Red Deer area unemployment rate rose to 6.6% last month from 6.5% in November.
The Alberta rate dropped from 7.2 to 7.0%.
Nationally in December there was a rise in the number of full time jobs, as the economy added 35,200 positions and the unemployment rate fell to 5.6%.
That’s compared with a rate of 5.9% in November, when the country suffered the biggest monthly loss of jobs since the financial crisis.
