EDMONTON- Alberta Health Services has declared a hotel in west Edmonton that was the home to 41 people unfit for human habitation.

A fire at the Jasper Place Hotel last Monday caused an estimated $301,000 in damages, and an order from AHS notes the blaze affected asbestos-containing materials.

The order states there was no way for officials to confirm whether or not the asbestos had contaminated the air throughout the building, and it also noted there was no power to the second-floor rooms.

The Red Cross was called in to help the people who have been displaced.
