Three flu deaths in Alberta

Three people died in Alberta from lab-conformed influenza over the past week.

The deaths, the first of the current flu season, occurred in the Calgary, Edmonton and North zones, according to the latest report from Alberta Health Services.

AHS releases no further details regarding flu-related deaths due to privacy concerns.

So for this season, 911 cases of influenza A and B have been reported, with 181 people being admitted to hospital for treatment.

In the Central Zone, 88 flu cases have been reported with 39 of them requiring hospital stays.

There were 52 flu-related deaths in Alberta last year, which was down from 92 in the 2017-18 flu season.

This year, AHS says 1,193,795 doses of influenza vaccine have been administered across the province as of Dec. 7.
