Elections Alberta backtracks on decision not to name those fined for violating law
EDMONTON – Alberta’s chief electoral officer has reversed course on naming people or organizations fined for breaking elections laws.
Glen Resler’s office says it will continue the practice of publicly identifying those who break the rules.
The issue arose after the province passed a bill last week that put the office of the election commissioner back under Resler’s authority.
Former election commissioner Lorne Gibson had been naming violators along with releasing the amount of any fines, including $200,000 to the governing United Conservative Party.
