RED DEER- Customers of Cilantro & Chive connected with the “Eat Your Feelings” burger in September.

Dr. Jody Carrington was the guest chef with $2 from every burger sold going to the organization of her choice, Avery’s Legacy, which supports newly bereaved parents.

Thanks to the incredible support of the Burger of the Month program, $2,304 was raised.

Her creation was a poutine inspired burger which included an Alberta beef patty, cheese curds, Scholing’s fries, house-made gravy, candy bacon, onion rings, chipotle BBQ sauce, and leaf lettuce on a pretzel bun with a pickle spear.

The story behind Avery’s Legacy is one that stayed with Dr. Carrington who says she just couldn’t stop thinking of Avery when it came time to choose what local organization she would like to support.

Cathy and her husband Ryan suffered the unimaginable.

In March of 2017, their 13-month-old daughter Avery laid down for an afternoon nap at her day-home and never woke up again.

They created Avery’s Legacy as a way to honour her memory and support others during times of grief.

Avery’s Legacy specializes in creating meaningful gifts that promote a healthy grieving and mourning process, offering a variety of personalized bereavement boxes that support those who are grieving the death of anyone they love.

To date, the Burger of the Month program has raised over $55,000 for local charities.

October’s Burger of the Month at Cilantro & Chive is “The White Buffalo”, created in collaboration with guest Chef Peter Michaels of 106.7 The Drive.

It includes MSW Farms bison patty, pork belly bacon, smoked white cheddar, Snake Lake Brewing Co. Varsity Hall BBQ sauce, Blindman Brewing Triphammer drunken onions, tomato, mixed greens and chipotle aioli with sliced jalapeño garnish on a pretzel bun.

From every burger sold, $2 will go directly towards Peter’s charity of choice, the Alzheimer Society of Alberta and Northwest Territories.
