RED DEER- Both Red Deer College Soccer teams defeated the University of Alberta Augustana Vikings and Ambrose University Lions.

The Queens Basketball team picked up a pair of exhibition victories in Calgary.

The Basketball Kings dropped two preseason contests.

The RDC Queens Volleyball team recorded two wins in a non-conference tournament.

The Red Deer College Cross Country Running Kings & Queens participated in the Willamette Charles Bowles Cross Country Invitational in Oregon and they had some solid performances.

Here is a summary of what happened this past week in RDC Athletics:

Queens Soccer | Saturday, October 5 | U of A Augustana

The RDC Queens Soccer team defeated the University of Alberta Augustana Vikings 3-0. Second-year Bachelor of Science Nursing student Alisha Coules scored all three goals for the Queens.

Queens Soccer | Sunday, October 6 | RDC Main Field

The Soccer Queens downed the Ambrose University Lions 2-1 at home. Natalie Frenette and Ashley Thomson scored for RDC.

With the win, the RDC Queens (4-4-0) share third spot in the south with the Medicine Hat College Rattlers (3-2-3) and U of A Augustana Vikings (4-4-0).

Kings Soccer | Saturday, October 5 | U of A Augustana

The Red Deer College Kings Soccer team downed the U of A Augustana Vikings 6-1 on the road. Six different RDC student-athletes contributed a goal.

The RDC Kings shutout the Ambrose University Lions 3-0. Lacombe’s Nathan Swartz scored first.

Red Deer’s Kristofer Grobmeier was selected as the Collegiate Sports Medicine Kings Player-of-the-Game.

The Kings (6-1-1) share top spot in the south with the Lethbridge College Kodiaks (6-1-1).

RDC Cross Country Running | Charles Bowles Cross Country Invitational | Sat., Oct. 5

The RDC Queens had a strong race, ranking fifth as a team in a competitive field.

Shayla Sklaruk was the quickest Queen, completing 5 km in 19:21.4.

She finished 17th overall in the women’s division.

Head Coach Kari Elliott (18:32.9) raced as an open runner and impressively ranked fifth.

Devin Saunders was the fastest member of the Kings, finishing 8 km in 26:14.8, which placed him 40th among all male participants.
