Sep 26, 2019 | 3:50 PM

Dawson Barteaux was in a good mood on Thursday, and for good reason.

The Red Deer Rebels captain put pen to paper in the morning on a three-year, entry-level contract with the NHL’s Dallas Stars.

The 6-foot-1, 185-pound native of Foxwarren, Manitoba was originally selected by Dallas in the sixth round (168th overall) of the 2018 NHL Draft.

Barteaux, 19, registered 34 points in 67 regular-season games with the Rebels last season. He finished fourth on the team in assists (27) and sixth in points (34) in 2018-19, ranking second among club defensemen in both categories behind Alexander Alexeyev.

So far in his WHL career, which began with the Regina Pats, Barteaux has recorded 70 points (10-60=70) in 174 career regular-season games over four seasons. He also has five assists in 12 career WHL postseason games.
