Two arrests have been made in relation to a home invasion that occurred more than two years ago south of Ponoka.

Robert Handy, 29, of no fixed address and Shawn Metzger, 37, of Red Deer have been jointly charged with 27 offences in relation to the incident, including robbery with a firearm, possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose, and two counts each of forcible confinement, assault with a weapon, and pointing a firearm.

Handy and Metzger were slated to appear in Ponoka Provincial Court on Wednesday.

On June 24, 2017 at approximately 2:00 a.m., Ponoka RCMP were dispatched to a residence in the Morningside area after a 911 call.

On arrival, Mounties located two residents who had sustained minor injuries as result of an altercation that took place inside the home.

Investigation revealed five male suspects entered the home armed with a firearm and restrained the two victims. Suspects made off with five firearms, coins, and the victim’s 1995 maroon Dodge Ram and departed in an unknown direction.

Ponoka RCMP said at the time that is was not a random incident and that the victims were targeted.
