Man severely burned in Calgary fire pit explosion

CALGARY- A man is in critical condition after suffering burns from an apparent flare-up in a backyard fire pit.

Emergency responders were called to a northeast home Tuesday evening after reports of an explosion in the area.

Officials say a man in his 40s had severe burns to more than 50% of his body.

It’s believed the flare-up happened when a flammable liquid, possibly paint thinner, was poured on the flames.
