Drugs, weapons and property seized in Red Deer stolen vehicle arrests

An investigation by the RCMP’s Crime Reduction Team this week has led to police laying dozens of charges against a man and woman from Red Deer and the seizure of stolen property, drugs and weapons.

On Sept. 4, Mounties say members were conducting an investigation into a stolen vehicle in the Eastview area of Red Deer, when the vehicle stopped at a residence.

Police say the occupants of the vehicle were arrested, with officers seizing one rifle, one shotgun, drugs, including fentanyl and methamphetamine, identification cards, credit cards, and other suspected stolen property after a search of the vehicle.

As a result, RCMP say 53 Criminal Code charges have been laid.

Christopher Phillips, 42, of Red Deer, has been charged with 32 Criminal Code offences, including possession of stolen property over $5000, five counts of possession of stolen property under $5000, six counts of failure to comply with recognizance, two counts of possession of identity documents, resist police/peace officer and 17 firearms related offences.

In addition, Philips has been charged with possession of a controlled substance under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act, and two charges under the Highway Traffic Act.

Phillips remains in custody and will appear in Red Deer Provincial Court on Sept. 9.

Amber Knickle, 20, also of Red Deer, has been charged with 21 Criminal Code charges including possession of stolen property over $5000, possession of stolen property under $5000, resist police/peace officer, two counts of failure to comply with recognizance, failure to comply with probation order and 15 firearms related offences.

Knickle remains in custody and will also appear in Red Deer Provincial Court Sept. 9.
