New slide to be installed at Collicutt Centre Water Park

An exciting new addition will be arriving at the Collicutt Centre later this month: a new water slide.

The Collicutt Centre Water Park will close from September 9-27, for regular annual maintenance and to allow for the installation of the slide.

The Water Park and the new water slide will open to the public Saturday, Sept. 28, at 11 a.m.

Red Deerians are invited to attend a celebration in the Water Park on opening day, which will feature fun games and activities for children and youth. Regular admission rates apply.

The City of Red Deer is hosting a contest for the opportunity to be the first person to ride the new slide.

To enter, people are asked to submit their favourite memory from a City recreation facility or program on or before September 20. The winner will be selected randomly and notified on Sept. 23.

The slide, part of the original facility design, was approved for installation by City Council during the 2019 annual budget process.

Required infrastructure, including support posts, were built during the original construction so 2019 expenses are limited to the purchase of the slide and installation costs.

The total project budget is $282,000.
