Mounties investigating ‘targeted’ shooting downtown

City Mounties are investigating what they believe was a targeted shooting in downtown Red Deer on Tuesday.

RCMP responded to an area near 53 Avenue where the incident took place shortly before noon.

“The victim went to hospital with non-life threatening injuries,” according to Cpl. Karyn Kay with Red Deer RCMP.

Kay says police are now looking for a light blue-coloured Honda CR-V in relation to the incident.

The shooting occurred near Red Deer’s temporary overdose prevention site. However, an official with Turning Point, the agency which operates the site, tells rdnewsNOW that neither staff nor users were involved.
