Join Lifelong Learning for their 32nd Annual General Meeting

Aug 28, 2019 | 10:34 AM

Members of the community are invited to attend the Annual General Meeting of the Lifelong Learning Council of Red Deer this September 17th. Lifelong Learning will be welcoming applications from the community at large for board member positions. This is a unique opportunity to learn about the work this grant-making agency does, how adult learning makes a difference in our community, and the ways people can get involved.

“Well planned, concise meetings mean that our board members rarely have to volunteer more than three hours of their time to prepare for and attend a quarterly board meeting,” says Executive Director, LeeAnne Shinski, “We are proud of the balance we have struck between impact and time commitment. It enables even the busiest professionals to get involved to help make a dramatic difference in the community.”

Distributing over $150,000 annually throughout the community of Red Deer, Lifelong Learning has a 32-year long history of encouraging equity through literacy. Funds for the 2019/2020 year have been granted to 11 agencies, for courses like English Language Learning, Basic Digital Skills, and Adult Literacy.

The staff of Lifelong Learning further support community causes by bringing their literacy focus to collective impact groups such as the Central Alberta Poverty Reduction Alliance, Welcoming & Inclusive Communities Network, Settlement Services Network, Urban Aboriginal Voices Society, and the Red Deer Workplace Inclusion Charter.
